Acclaimed Lakes Area Music Festival 2017 Prelude Series Returns to Aitkin’s Historic Opera House, July 15th

As part of its acclaimed series of live classical performances leading up to its 2017 Season, the Lakes Area Music Festival will once again return for its third consecutive year to the historic Aitkin Opera House at the Butler Building (301 Minnesota Avenue North) on July 15 at 7 p.m.

The concert, as part of its Prelude Series, will feature five performers collaborating on string quartets and vocal selections by Samuel Barber, Bela Bartok, Antonin Dvorak, Maurice Ravel, selections from the 2017 opera – Georges Bizet’s Carmen – and more. Performances will include violinists Kathryn Bennett and Rebecca Corrucini of the Minnesota Orchestra, violist Nicole Sutterfield of the Milwaukee Symphony, and LAMF directors Scott Lykins (cello and piano) and John Taylor Ward (baritone).

This year’s Lakes Area Music Festival 2017 Season features a world-class collaborative roster of more than 125 of the country’s best performers. Performances will range from chamber music to symphonic orchestra to opera and ballet productions.

Admission to the concert is free, although donations are greatly appreciated. There will be a cash bar serving beer and wine and light refreshments for sale. Doors will open at 6:30 on the second floor of the Butler Building.

Celebrating its ninth season this year, the Lakes Area Music Festival (LAMF) was co-founded in 2009 by arts entrepreneurs Scott Lykins and Taylor Ward. The 2017 Prelude Series will run from July 15 – 23, with other shows taking place in Brainerd, Crosslake, Motley, Deerwood, and Nisswa.

“Bringing classical music to towns like Aitkin is always a pleasure, and to perform in a historic venue like the Butler Building is wonderful for audiences and performers alike. We are really looking forward to this concert and introducing new and returning classical music audiences to some really excellent music,” said Scott Lykins, Artistic & Executive Director, Lakes Area Music Festival.
