August Yields Plentiful Finds at 2016 Aitkin Farmers’ Market

Farmers Market 2016With the 2016 Minnesota abundant harvest season well on its way and the 17th Annual National Farmers Market Week kicking off on Aug. 7th  through 13th, Minnesotans will soon have the chance to procure some of the state’s best produce yet with a cornucopia of seasonal options to be found at the weekly farmers’ market in Downtown Aitkin.

In spite of the deluge of rain these past few months, it has actually been a positive in creating a superabundance of agricultural goods this harvest season.

Starting in August, patrons of the Aitkin Farmers’ Market will be able to pick up some of the state’s best garden-fresh offerings, in addition to the usual fare of handmade crafts and delicious jellies and jams. There will also be organic pork, chicken and eggs for sale, in addition to fresh breads, homemade rolls, and maple syrup.

Here is what shoppers can expect to find during the peak month of August:

There will be a solid bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables available including beans, beets, blueberries, carrots, cucumbers, garlic, grapes, kale, kohlrabi, fresh leaf lettuce, melons, peppers, potatoes, raspberries, rhubarb, squash, sweet corn and tomatoes.

The Aitkin Farmers’ Market is held every Saturday through October, or until it snows, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the parking lot of the historic Butler Building, located at 301 Minnesota Avenue North in Downtown Aitkin.
