The acclaimed Prelude Series, presented by the Lakes Area Music Festival, will return for its fourth year in a row to the City of Aitkin on Saturday, July 14, it has been announced.
This year’s highly anticipated performance will once again take place at the historic Opera House at the Butler Building (301 Minnesota Avenue North), beginning at 7 p.m.
The concert, presented to the public before Lakes Area Music Festival’s 10th Anniversary Season, will feature six classical musicians, and bring to the community a number of family-friendly musical pieces for strings, piano and voice.
During the Aitkin concert, all six performers will collaborate on selections by Camille Saint-Saens, Franz Joseph Haydn, Aaron Copland, Felix Mendelssohn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Maurice Ravel, Gustav Mahler, and traditional arrangements by the Danish String Quartet.
Performances will include members of the Minneapolis-based Lux String Quartet, comprised of Erika Blanco (violin), Stephanie Skor (violin), Kirsti Petraborg (viola), Eric Graf (cello) and John Taylor Ward (baritone) and Scott Lykins (piano), both arts entrepreneurs and LAMF directors.
This year’s Lakes Area Music Festival 2018 Season features a world-class collaborative roster of more than 150 of the country’s best musicians from top orchestras and opera companies across the globe in performances of chamber music, symphony orchestra, opera and ballet..
Admission to the Aitkin concert is free, although donations are greatly appreciated. Doors will open at 6:30 on the second floor of the Butler Building.
Celebrating its 10th season this year, the Lakes Area Music Festival (LAMF) was co-founded in 2009 by Lykins and Ward. The 2018 Prelude Series will also include shows in Brainerd and Crosslake.
